Background

Rare’s Global Policy team, as part of the Global Development team, supports local, national and international policies that center the voices, priorities and aspirations of communities most impacted by climate change and other environmental challenges, and grant them a greater role in sustainably managing the natural resources they depend on. We work to accelerate global ambition, action, and investment in frontline communities, by co-designing local & national policies that enable community-led resource management, implementing policies that contribute to environmental & climate action, and elevating local voices at prominent events on the global stage. The Global Policy Team drives & coordinates Rare’s engagement at UN events and global conferences, bringing together the objectives of program teams, country offices, and executive, fundraising & communications staff.

Our policy priorities include:

  1. Linking policy action with behavioral science for durable conservation outcomes.
  2. Driving the equitable, people-centered implementation of 30x30.
  3. Supporting climate  & biodiversity policy alignment for nature-based adaptation & mitigation solutions.
  4. Strengthening coastal governance through legal access & empowerment of small-scale fishers.
  5. Connecting mayors & local government leaders to drive effective coastal management.
