The Associate, Program Implementation (Social Technician) supports the implementation of Rare’s Fish Forever Program in the departments of Atlántida, Cortés, Islas de la Bahía in Honduras by helping to manage and develop socioeconomic, technological, and organizational strengthening activities for community groups.

 

Essential Duties

 

  • Develop training and outreach activities at the community level, organizational strengthening of marine governance, and focus on responsible artisanal fishing and technology for projects implemented by Rare in the departments of Cortés, Atlántida, and Islas de la Bahía in Honduras, as well as in other areas designated according to the projects being executed or managed.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of training processes managed and facilitated by Rare and its partners.
  • Develop and/or adapt manuals on good fishing practices and community organizational strengthening.
  • Support the design, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of the “Fishing for Life” Behavior Change Campaign and other campaigns related to responsible artisanal fishing and community participation, in coordination with Rare's technical teams.
  • Assist in the planning and logistical coordination of ecological monitoring of access rights areas and marine reserves in the Caribbean departments of Honduras.
  • Implement the use of technological tools to record fish catch data (OurFish 3.0 App) and others promoted by Rare through its projects, by identifying and training new users of the tools in assigned regions according to the projects being executed or managed.
  • Support coordination and monitoring in the collection of community socioeconomic baselines as planned (Community Profiles and/or Household Surveys).
  • Assist in managing synergies, strategic alliances, and coordination with various institutions in the assigned work areas, primarily with local governments, community leaders, fishermen’s organizations, and the municipalities of the Caribbean of Honduras and Guatemala, among other stakeholders.
  • Provide input for the development of annual operational plans, interim, and final project reports that have direct relevance to their work areas.
  • Collaborate in implementing the Fish Forever approach in coordination with the work plan of the municipalities of the Caribbean of Honduras and Guatemala.
  • Prepare monthly planning and budget for activities under their responsibility and submit to the immediate supervisor for approval.
  • Prepare and send to Rare's central administration the financial settlements corresponding to the funds allocated for travel and/or events, etc.
  • Represent Rare in meetings, workshops, seminars, and partner/community events as assigned.
  • Perform other functions as deemed necessary by Rare's Vice Presidency or the Senior Program Implementation Manager of Rare.
  • Follow-up on action items determined in meetings, both with team members and with other parties involved.
  • Create and manage record-keeping systems in Egnyte and communication structures and mechanism that allows for sharing and easy and quickly access of tools and information.
  • Capture knowledge, helping to prepare for and participate in internal and external meetings, and capturing and synthesizing notes and insights from meetings.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Manage project tracking, M&E support, Safeguards track and map the team delivery on long-term objectives.
  • Draft content (such as PowerPoint slides, talking points, edit materials, communication content, social network content etc.)

 

Required Professional Profile

 

  • University degree in social sciences, environmental sciences, or similar fields.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in the coastal marine region, preferably the Caribbean Coast of Honduras.
  • Experience in the use of participatory methodologies with community groups and/or indigenous peoples, in organizational strengthening and management of marine-coastal resources.
  • Experience working in programs and/or projects, NGOs (desirable).

 

Other Essential Requirements

  • Possession of a light vehicle license.
  • Proficient in the use of Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Skill in using virtual communication platforms or tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, others).
  • Resident of the Municipality of La Ceiba, Atlántida.

 

Required Skills

  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of artisanal fisheries and the coastal marine environment.
