Rare is a $30 million, international sustainable development organization, recognized as a global leader in catalyzing behavior change to achieve enduring conservation results.
For every major challenge facing the environment — deforestation, overfishing, pollution, climate change — people are both the problem and the solution. In an era of relentless economic growth, the fate of nature and humanity depends on whether we can learn to change our relationship to natural resources. At Rare, we know it is possible.
For over 40 years we have empowered leaders in 56 countries to inspire community pride in nature and to mobilize the adoption of sustainable resource management, enabling people and nature to thrive. We find what works locally and bring it to scale globally — providing a blueprint for building a conservation ethic around the world. We deliver improved livelihoods, biodiversity protection, solutions to systemic economic challenges, and more climate-resilient communities. Our culture is results-oriented and entrepreneurial.
In Colombia, the agricultural sector holds the key to continued peace and thriving landscapes - today and tomorrow - where a mosaic of uses is mutually reinforcing, improved yields and productivity, safeguarded habitats and biodiversity, increased resilience, and enhanced bio sequestration. Inadequate technical assistance and extension service support has repeatedly been identified as the main barrier to the adoption of more sustainable, climate-compatible agricultural practices. Rare is therefore aligning behavioral strategies and levers with agroecological practices to help bring about rapid, sustained and scalable shifts across productive landscapes. This work entails engaging with farmers, extension service agents, local authorities and other stakeholders to advance more integrated land-use approaches. The opportunity is to support farmers and communities become change agents themselves to advance the transition to vibrant agroecological landscapes.
Work undertaken in Colombia will be at the forefront of a global program on climate-smart agriculture that Rare is developing. This is an exceptional opportunity for an entrepreneurial and creative individual to help lead the development of a new global program at the intersection of agriculture, climate change, behavior change, and conservation.
The Behavioral Strategies Lead will support the development Rare’s work in this field. The preferred candidate will have practical, hands-on experience in effecting change in specific constituencies or geographies, preferably related to work in the rural space. She/he will work closely with teams within the organization to develop and implement concrete programs and products that lead to measurable results in the field.
