    It’s never been a better time to join the Rare team!  Rare is growing and expanding our impact through a range of exciting programs, including watershed protection, sustainable agriculture, and Fish Forever (FF) – our first global initiative working to restore near-shore fisheries in developing tropics (www.fishforever.org).  The Coordinator of Financial Inclusion has the unique opportunity to work cross-functionally with other staff in Brazil and in other regions and will contribute significantly to the Fish Forever Science Team.

     

    Position Overview

    The Financial Coordinator provides support for the implementation of financial inclusion and OurFish app related activities for Rare’s Fish Forever program in Brazil. Outcomes of the activities aim to have a clear and direct positive impact on livelihoods, economic growth and inclusive social and economic development of fishing communities in Para and other coastal states of Brazil.  He/she will help coordinate all the financial inclusion and data collection efforts including but not limited to: financial literacy, savings groups, small enterprise development, fisher’s registration, training buyers to collect data in OurFish as well as assist with training of Pride Program Managers and local leaders.

    Coordinator of financial inclusion will support Rare Brazil’s work on the Fish Forever program, undertaking the following tasks:

     

    Program Development and Management:

    • Collaborate with key partners and stakeholders for research and development of innovative, cutting edge strategies and approaches to sharpen delivery of financial services (with particularly attention to savings groups) to fishing communities in Para state (and others), Brazil.
    • Research the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors and need/demand for financial services of fishers’ stakeholders, particularly women;
    • Support the procurement of implementing partners and manage their onboarding;
    • Contribute to and support Rare Brazil’s leadership team with regional financial inclusion fundraising efforts.
    • Lead project delivery and achievement of objectives by coordinating with implementation director and working with and supporting stakeholder groups/communities’ project-related activities;
    • Ensure effective program coordination between the implementing stakeholders and other development partners, and ensure that all stakeholders are communicating with each other to enhance synergies;
    • Contribute to the creation and sharing of lessons learned and good practices gleaned from the Brazil financial inclusion activities, internally as well as with Rare FF global
    • Draft, review and edit concepts notes, knowledge products and presentations;
    • Assist other administrative tasks as necessary.

    Monitoring and Reporting

    • Collect and analyze data to draft monitoring reports;
    • Measure project targets and activity progress, including social and gender dimensions and indicators of progress on a periodic basis (e.g. quarterly basis);
    • Aid in the design and tracking of program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relevant to the finance work, work closely with stakeholder groups and partner institutions to collect and analyze data periodically (e.g. on a monthly basis);
    • Undertake regular field visits to project sites in Para and other locations and host community meetings and workshops;
    • Report into Rare infosystem database on project progress;
    • Attend periodic meetings to stay up-to-date on Rare policies for monitoring and reporting across Rare Brazil and Rare global;
    • Produces periodic reports summarizing project progress and analysis of data.

     

    Knowledge Sharing and Networking:

    • Provide support to implementation director, program implementation managers and training manager on the organization of workshops, trainings, and knowledge sharing events on the inclusive finance components;
    • Provide input to relevant communications materials (brochure, newsletter, success stories etc.);
    • Provide input to blog posts related to financial inclusion in Para and other Brazil regions to be published on the Rare website and/or donor communications/reports;
    • Support the dissemination of information about events and publications on social media to his/her respective area;
    • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for Rare publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.

    Education and Expeirence

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, international development, economics or related field is required.
    • Area of expertise: finance, accounting and audit.
    • Have practical working experience within the financial sector and/or microfinance, preferably Para (1-2 years);
    • Language Skills: Portuguese fluent, advanced level of English
    • Demonstrated interest in financial inclusion and financial/digital capability for vulnerable and rural populations;
    • Knowledge of latest developments in the field regarding application of technology packages to innovate in products and services – including digital financial services;
    • Previous experience in Para is an advantage;
    • Interest and some prior experience working with fishers’ communities is a plus;
    • Strong organizational skills;
    • Advanced English writing skills;
    • Ability to effectively analyses and interpret data;
    • Prepared to travel widely in Para, spending a significant amount of time in and around the fishing communities;
    • Motivated to contribute towards development, gender equality and to serve others;
    • Previous project management experience is an asset;
    • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
    • Brazilian Driving License;
    • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
    • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
    • Excellent computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others)
